Real Time BART Arrivals Visualization

2008 October 12

For my next project at Berkeley, I created a real time visualization of estimated train arrival times within the BART system. So next time you need to head over to the East Bay, just check the visualization and you can see how far away your train is from the station.

More detail on the project and process behind it are documented here. Thanks to BART for making their arrivals data available!

  1. Wow, that is a really cool idea. I was a little intimidated by all the squares at first but after I understood what was happening things became much clearer. If the trains are at most points in time not on the track (since they travel on angle), you could think about breaking from the map and display the information geometrically?

  2. Scott, that is amazing. the thing that strikes me the most is how much this connects me to what is really happening in the city while I’m here, 3,000 miles away. it’s like I’m right there, or I can imagine I am there. very awesome.
