This New York City street sign just sounds so des­per­ate to me. I think it has to do with the lack of peri­ods. Both the ini­tial sen­tence, and the final “Please” drag on and on with­out peri­ods to for­mally end them. Also, the “Please” is in slightly smaller type, which makes it even more pathetic. I won­der if that makes the sign any more suc­cess­ful in its goal of chang­ing dog-walkers’ behav­ior (at the expense of gram­mat­i­cal correctness).

Hey… Is that a dis? I pre­sume by the dis­tressed type­writer let­ter­ing that you found her lurk­ing in the under­ground forums of IRC or post­ing risque per­son­als on Craigslist, not perus­ing the respect­ful recipes at Epicurious or email­ing her elected rep­re­sen­ta­tives. Who are you, anyway?
